I'm Elizabeth A McDonald
History has interested me from the days of my Matric studies in school. Despite this interest, I followed a path into Science and Maths teaching and left history studies behind.
Following the early years of my career as a teacher, education in its various aspects sums up my employment. I was involved in policy and professional development at the secondary and tertiary levels of education, in government, Catholic educational institutions and universities.
When I retired, I returned to history, my family history. The journey with my ancestors opened up the past in places such as Ireland and Scotland and my home, Australia.
In 2014, as a guest of the Daughters of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart in Tzaneen, I scanned the Irish sisters’ old photograph albums and was asked to put together the OLSH Sisters’ history in South Africa. This work led to the request that I prepare a history for the 50th Anniversary of the Diocese of Tzaneen.
